Paul Scholes has claimed that Diego Llorente was ‘so obsessed’ with Harry Maguire during Leeds United’s 4-2 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, as he told Premier League Productions (20/02/22 at 2:55 pm).

The former midfielder was critical of Llorente’s defending during the all-action game at Elland Road, which led to Maguire opening the scoring for Man United.

Leeds eventually were 2-0 down at the break and Marcelo Bielsa ended up taking off his centre-back.

It’s the norm for Bielsa to make such changes, but at the end of the day, it was still a signal to the player that he wasn’t happy with what he was seeing.

Whilst Scholes would have been pleased with his former side doing the business in Yorkshire, he was critical at the manner in which Llorente defended the corner yesterday.

“You have to question the defending,” said Scholes. “He is so obsessed with Maguire.

“Where is Maguire? Without looking at the ball. Look at the ball. I think if Llorente looks at the ball, then he clears it away with his head.

“But he doesn’t do that and Maguire thankfully heads it in.”

That’s more goals Leeds are shipping in and it’s not going to get any easier on Wednesday night.

It’s only the small matter of having to take on Liverpool at Anfield and they will have their tail between their legs.

Manchester City were beaten by Tottenham recently and that has opened the Premier League title race door wide open.

When Marcelo Bielsa’s side faced Man City recently, they conceded seven and there will be worries that they could be picked apart again by their title rivals.
