Everton were beaten 5-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Speaking to BT Sport, Paul Scholes has slammed Everton’s performance in the defeat to Chelsea.
The Blues travelled to Stamford Bridge on Saturday looking to build on last weekend’s win over West Ham United.
It proved to be a disastrous afternoon for them, though, as Antonio Conte’s side ran riot to win 5-0.
In reality the scoreline could have been even worse as the home side carved open the Everton defence time and again.
It was a shocking performance from Ronald Koeman’s men, who had entered the game with one of the best defensive records in the league.
Scholes was one of those watching and he did not hold back in his criticism of the Toffees.
“Koeman will be scratching his head, he’ll be wondering what has happened,” he told BT Sport.
“You associate them with being good in possession, they weren’t good at that. They looked an old team today, they looked slow, really sluggish. There’s no real excuse for that. There’s no European football to worry about.”
The result leaves Everton sixth in the table, although they could end the weekend in eighth if results go against them.
They will want to draw a line under this result and return to winning ways following the international break.
Luckily their next game sees them come up against 19th-placed Swansea, a game they should be confident of winning despite having failed to do so in their last four meetings in the league.
