Liverpool have started their first full season under Jurgen Klopp strongly.

Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes has admitted to BT Sport that he thinks Liverpool can challenge for the title this season.

The Reds have started the campaign on fire, picking up 13 points from their first six games of the season.

They have been impressive, to say the least, putting four past Arsenal and Leicester apiece as well as beating Chelsea and drawing with Tottenham Hotspur.

Their attacking prowess has been particularly notable as they have scored the second most of any team in the division behind Manchester City.

Many are predicting that they could be title contenders this season and Scholes, a former United stalwart, has admitted he fears they will be.

“Liverpool look like they’re a team who can win the league,” he told BT Sport.

“I think it’s a big test for United to go there [on October 17] and try and get something out of the game. I think they’d take a draw now.”

“I was a little bit worried about them defensively but you have to say, the attacking quality they’re showing at the minute, they look like they’re going to score goals against anybody.”

It remains to be seen if Liverpool do end up challenging for the title this season after this impressive start.

If they are going to do that, there is no doubt that they will have to improve vastly in defence moving forward.

On a per game basis, they have won the fewest tackles, the fewest interceptions, the fewest defensive duels and the fewest aerial duels of any of the current top four.

Their attacking prowess has made up for that shortfall so far but as Brendan Rodgers side discovered in 2012/13 that cannot last forever and improvement will be needed to ensure they stay competitors throughout.
