Paul Robinson believes the blame lies with West Ham over Joe Hart’s form.
Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has told betting outlet FansBet that West Ham United are to blame for ruining Joe Hart’s chances of being England’s number one goalkeeper this summer.
Hart, 30, was dropped by David Moyes prior to the busy Christmas period after a run of poor form between the sticks for the Hammers, where he has struggled to impress since joining on a season-long loan from Manchester City.
The former Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper has failed to reclaim his place in the West Ham side, featuring only in cup competitions and it now seems unlikely that Hart will be England’s number one this summer in Russia.
Robinson, who represented England 41 times at senior level throughout his career, claimed West Ham are the reason for Hart’s below-par form this season as there is no “stable platform” at the club for different reasons.
“It’s glaringly obvious what has happened to Joe Hart at West Ham. It has been a disappointing loan for him there. He went to Torino and did okay,” Robinson said.
“But at West Ham he’s playing in a team that has underperformed, there’s a lot of unrest at that club; the manager, the owners, the stadium. It’s not been a stable platform for him to play on. He will find it difficult to be England’s number one without playing games.”
Hart has failed to feature in the Premier League since November but could now be in line for a recall with Spaniard Adrian conceding 11 goals in his last four games, including four against Swansea and the same amount to Liverpool.
Stoke City’s Jack Butland remains England’s leading contender to start in goal at the World Cup, but Everton’s Jordan Pickford has been in impressive form this season and will look to rival both Hart and Butland.
It remains to be seen if Hart will feature for the Hammers again this season.
