Leeds United supporters are pleading with Paul Robinson to return to his old club and play in Wednesday night’s fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The former Leeds goalkeeper retired from playing last summer, but found himself inundated with messages from Whites fans after signing up to Twitter recently.
Leeds have found Robert Green hard to replace this season, with Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan heavily criticised since their summer arrivals at Elland Road.
However, Robinson will not be returning to help the club at which he began his career and made more than 100 appearances.
The former England number one posted: “Sadly I can’t play in goals tonight for LUFC. But thanks for the offers”.
Beverley-born Robinson moved to Leeds in 1996 following a spell in York City’s youth system, and though he made his debut during the 1998-99 season, it wasn’t until 2002-03 that his breakthrough truly arrived.
The 38-year-old spent two full campaigns as Whites number one, before moving to Tottenham Hotspur after the Yorkshire side’s relegation in 2004.
