Paul Robinson gave his take on talkSPORT (10:35am, September 11, 2020) on Leeds United announcing that Marcelo Bielsa has signed a new contract.

The former Leeds goalkeeper is pleased to see Bielsa stay at Elland Road, and believes that it does not really come as a surprise.

However, Robinson has added that he is disappointed that the Argentine has signed only a one-year deal.

As announced on Leeds’s official website this morning, Bielsa has signed a one-year contract with the Whites and will stay as the head coach of the first team for the 2020-21 season.

Bielsa was appointed the Leeds head coach in the summer of 2018, and he guided the team to automatic promotion from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of last season.

This is the first time that the West Yorkshire outfit will play in the top flight of English since 2004.

Robinson said on talkSPORT (10:35am, September 11, 2020): “It’s great. I mean, I think it is news that we were all expecting.

“The fact that the lads have been back training two or three weeks, the manager was still there, taking the training sessions and carried on as normal, but there was just no news about his contract. Of course, it’s always worrying.

“The only thing that does disappoint me is it’s only 12 months. You would look to keep him there a little bit longer.”

Big season ahead

While no one seriously expects Leeds to challenge for the European places this season, the Elland Road faithful will hope that the team is competitive in the Premier League and are not involved in the relegation dogfight.
