Paul Robinson has given his honest opinion on whether Leeds United can achieve automatic promotion into the Premier League as the Championship campaign heads into the final, crucial stages.
The retired goalkeeper came through the ranks at Elland Road and made 95 top-flight appearances for the Whites between October 1998 and May 2004, plus six in the Champions League (Transfermarkt).
Sadly for the Beverley-born stopper, his last outing for Leeds was in the 3-3 draw at home to Charlton Athletic which confirmed relegation to the Championship after 14 years in the top flight.
Since then, the Whites have endured 15 painful years outside England’s premier division but, with just four games left this season, they sit second in the table, three points clear of third-placed Sheffield United.
Put simply, if Marcelo Bielsa can steer Leeds to at least 10 more points in their next four games, then the Whites will finish in the top two and be in the Premier League for their centenary season no matter what the Blades do.
“Do I think they can do it? Yes I can,” Robinson told Sky Sports, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post. “I think they are hitting form just at the right time and if they win this Friday that’s nine in 11 that they will have won so they are on a real good run of form.
“Sheffield United have drawn their last two games which hopefully is a dip in form from a Leeds point of view at the wrong time. But it’s going to be close. I think it will go right down to the wire.”
The Easter break brings two matchdays as Leeds prepare to host Wigan Athletic at Elland Road on Good Friday before heading to Brentford on Easter Monday.
