Paul Robinson has told LUTV that he is delighted to see Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa stick with Bailey Peacock-Farrell as his first-choice goalkeeper.

The 21-year-old is enjoying an excellent season with top-of-the-table Leeds so far.

The Northern Ireland keeper, who made his full debut at international level last week, finished the 2017-18 campaign as United’s first choice, ahead of Andy Lonergan and Felix Wiedwald.

Leeds also signed Jamal Blackman on a season-long loan from Chelsea in the summer as competition for Peacock-Farrell, but Bielsa has stuck with the youngster.

And former stopper Robinson, who spent eight years at Elland Road until 2004, is chuffed to see the Argentine coach continue with him.

He told LUTV: “I’m pleased that he’s stuck with Bailey in goal. I like what he did at the end of last year. He was given his chance last year and I’m really, really pleased.

“He brought the lad in from Chelsea but he’s not an obvious number one, but he’s given Bailey the number one shirt. I think he fully deserves it and I’d like to see him flourish.”

There will be bumps along the way for Peacock-Farrell. In fact, it’s inevitable, given how young he is, but how he responds to the setbacks will determine how good he can become.

Wiedwald, for instance, didn’t bounce back well from errors and that ultimately led to his demise in West Yorkshire, so it’ll be interesting to see how Peacock-Farrell reacts to the disappointing moments that he will certainly have this season.
