Kiko Casilla enjoyed an eventful afternoon as Leeds United opened their new Championship campaign with an impressive win.

Paul Robinson has told Sky Sports’ live post-match coverage of Leeds’ 3-1 win over Bristol City (broadcast on 4/8 from 16:00) that Kiko Casilla will be disappointed by the goal the Whites conceded, and admitted that he has serious concerns about the Spaniard’s decision-making.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men opened up their campaign with an impressive victory over the Robins at Ashton Gate. The Whites dominated large parts of the game, but that did not stop Casilla enjoying an incredibly eventful afternoon.
The former Real Madrid man was heavily criticised for the form that he showed during the latter stages of last season. But that did not put the stopper off when the opportunity to fly off his line presented itself. It led to a few nervy moments, but Leeds were not punished.
Bristol City did score late on with Andi Weimann getting into the box and getting a shot away much too easily. The strike found its way in at Casilla’s near post as the goalkeeper failed to save the attempt with his leg.
And after the game, Robinson was extremely critical of Casilla’s role in the home side’s goal and insisted that he is still worried about the January signing, before offering his old club some advice ahead of the final days of the transfer window following the sale of Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, he’ll be disappointed,” he told Sky Sports when asked about the goal. “He shouldn’t get beaten at his near post and he certainly shouldn’t be going for it with his left foot. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t be going for that ball with his hands.
“He hasn’t filled me with confidence again today. He makes bad decisions. He comes for crosses he shouldn’t do. His starting position causes him problems. Towards the end of last season, he caused the defence too many problems by making bad decisions.
“But one thing that I do like about him is he doesn’t stop coming. He makes his decision and always comes. There was a ball near the end of the box and he came and he caught it and he was confident and he held it, which inspires confidence around your defenders. His decision-making is the poor thing for me at the moment.

“I think they need a very good number two who is capable of being a number one,” he added when asked whether Leeds need to sign a new goalkeeper.
In fairness to Casilla, he made a couple of impressive saves, and his composure on the ball and distribution have become a key part of Leeds’ build-up play. He is also not the only player who will be disappointed with their part in the goal with Barry Douglas seemingly reluctant to shut Weimann down as he broke into the box.
It looks as though it is going to be another eventful campaign for the goalkeeper. But with Pablo Hernandez picking up where he left off last season, it seems highly unlikely that the fans will stop chanting Casilla’s name anytime soon.
