Speaking to FootballJoe, Paul Pogba has named former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can as his toughest ever opponent.

Can, of course, played against Pogba on a number of occasions in the Premier League, and while he left Liverpool on a free transfer in 2018, four years later it seems as though Pogba is still having nightmares about the German.

Interestingly, Pogba has played against Can on five separate occasions, and while he believes the German to be his toughest ever opponent, he’s actually never lost against the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

What’s been said?

Pogba named Can as his toughest ever opponent.

“Emre Can, Emre Can, yeah. We obviously have N’Golo and everything, but one day I remember I had a big battle with Emre Can. But with Kante, you pass him and you think there’s another N’Golo right behind him,” Pogba said.

Surprising

This is somewhat surprising to hear.

Can is a brilliant player, but Pogba has played against some of the greatest of all-time.

Pogba has played against some of the greatest midfielders of all-time, from Andres Iniesta in a Champions League final to Luka Modric in a World Cup final, but the Frenchman maintains that Can is his toughest ever opponent.

Perhaps playing against Can is a completely different experience to watching him play, because if a player as good as Pogba is struggling against him, then he must be a very good midfielder.

Luckily for Pogba, both United and Borussia Dortmund are out of European competitions this season, so he won’ have to meet Can on the pitch again anytime soon.
