Paul Pogba compared Arsenal transfer target Antoine Griezmann to N’Golo Kante on his Instagram story as France reached the 2022 World Cup final when they beat Morocco in the semi-finals in Qatar.

As the game was drawing to a close, the Juventus midfielder added ‘nearly time’, as France become the first team since Brazil in 1998 and 2002 to reach back-to-back World Cup finals.

Just like against England, Griezmann was outstanding, not just from an attacking sense, but what he provides in his own defensive third.

Chelsea midfielder Kante might not be at the tournament because of injury, but Griezmann is making sure that his presence isn’t being missed because the manner in which he presses the ball and senses danger is outstanding.

Kylian Mbappe might be pushing for the Golden Boot, but it’s the Arsenal transfer target that has been his side’s best player at the World Cup and probably the best player on the park against Morocco.

As for the African nation themselves, they have done themselves proud and they can hold their head high – this run to the semi-final is historic and it will be talked about for many more years to come.

GRIEZMANN – PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT?

A certain Lionel Messi, who the French will meet in the final, is probably standing in Griezmann’s way of becoming Player of the Tournament.

It has to be said that Messi’s name will probably drag him further ahead than his former Barcelona teammate, but if France beat the South American giants in the final, and he cooks, then Griezmann should be recognised in that way.

Either way, what a final that awaits football’s biggest stage – two big names on show – Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

The time for Messi to reach THE greatest status or will the baton be passed on to football’s next big thing in Mbappe?
