Manchester United are taking a look at hiring former Tottenham head of recruitment Paul Mitchell, report the Manchester Evening News.

Mitchell left Spurs last summer after a difficult transfer window, and is on the lookout for a new role.

Mitchell was reported to be frustrated last summer that Tottenham’s refusal to break their strict wage structure denied him the opportunity to fight it out for the top players.

With Spurs battling for positions at the top end of the Premier League, Mitchell was feeling held back, reported the London Evening Standard, when it came to trying to do his job and convince elite level talent to sign.

Spurs lost out on Michy Batshuayi to Chelsea in these circumstances, and saw the Belgian score the title winning goal for the Blues on Friday night.

At Manchester United, Mitchell would have no concerns. Tottenham are reluctant to break the £100,000 per week wage barrier for players. For the Red Devils this is small fry.

Wayne Rooney earns a reported £300,000 per week, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic was signed last summer at £280,000 per week.

United too have the prestige as 20 time English league champions and three time European Champions in their favour, and Jose Mourinho is a manager who has a proven track record.

The Red Devils are behind Tottenham this season and just how far could become evident on Sunday afternoon when they travel to White Hart Lane, but when it comes to signing players Manchester United are the true power houses, and that is why Mitchell is likely to see the role as a dream job, and make turning his back on Spurs seem worth it.
