Tottenham Hotspur signed a number of players in the summer transfer window.

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson seems to have questioned two of the signings that Tottenham Hotspur made in the summer transfer window on Skysports.com.

Tottenham signed as many as five players this summer, including two on transfer deadline day.

The North London outfit recruited defender defender Davinson Sanchez, goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, defender Juan Foyth, defender Serge Aurier and striker Fernando Llorente from Ajax, Southampton, Estudiantes, Paris Saint-Germain and Swansea City respectively.

Spurs also let a number of players leave in the summer transfer window, including right-back Kyle Walker and central defender Kevin Wimmer.

Former Arsenal attacker Merson has given his verdict on Tottenham’s activity in the summer transfer window.

While the former England international has praised Spurs getting Spain international striker Llorente, he does not seem to be too sure of central defender Sanchez and right-back Aurier.

“It was a hard summer for Tottenham because they’ve got their first team settled and they were looking for squad players,” Merson wrote on Skysports.com. “Yes, they let Kyle Walker leave but I’d be dropping him off at the gates of Man City for 50 million quid!

“I look at Serge Aurier and some of the stories that surround him and you wonder what will happen with him. Then they spent £38m on Davinson Sanchez, who is a player they didn’t really need and is just happy to be there.

“Fernando Llorente is good back-up to Harry Kane and will come on when they are chasing games. It’s been hard for Spurs in this market and people need to understand that.”

Tottenham are ninth in the Premier League table at the moment with four points from three matches, five points behind leaders Manchester United.
