Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Stoke City are reportedly interested in signing Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion.
Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson said on the Deadline Day show on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday evening (February 1, broadcast time 9:10pm) that West Bromwich Albion should not sell Saido Berahino.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Stoke City are interested in signing the 22-year-old striker.
“For me, I wouldn’t sell him,” said Merson. “He is a good player and he could come back to haunt you, and he could be the one to score a lorry loads of goals at Newcastle and then all of a sudden West Brom go down.
“I mean, it’s that tight at the bottom. You have to be playing Premier League football next season. So for me, you keep him because I think that he is a very good player.”
It is quite late in the transfer window, and it looks likely that Berahino will stay at West Brom until the end of the season.
The former England Under-21 international is a good striker, although he has not been playing well this season.
The 22-year-old is struggling to claim a place in the West Brom starting lineup, but he will certainly do his best in the coming months.
The young striker has scored just three goals and created only four chances in 18 Premier League appearances for West Brom so far this campaign.
Berahino has a pass accuracy of 81% and a shot accuracy of 58%, and has won two headers, eight dribbles and five tackles.
