Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur side were beaten again in the league at the weekend.

England's Paul Merson crosses the ball during the Star Sixes football match between England and Spain at the O2 Arena in London on July 13, 2017.

Paul Merson has told the Debate, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 29th April, that he is worried about Tottenham Hotspur’s players, ahead of their Champions League semi-final against Ajax this evening.

Tottenham head into uncharted territory in the Champions League later, when they host the Dutch giants.

Ajax have been in wonderful form in Europe this year, but Merson would have backed Spurs to make it past them usually.

However, Spurs are having to deal without a host of key players due to injury.

And Merson was worried by what he saw from Tottenham in their 1-0 defeat against West Ham United at the weekend.

He said: “It’s a shame. I really fancied them against Ajax. Tottenham will show them a lot of respect.

“I think if they had their players fit they definitely would have beaten Ajax, but when I watched them against Ajax the other day it looked like they were running in treacle, some of the players.”

Spurs were very poor against West Ham, although Pochettino has insisted that it wasn’t a fatigue issue.

Tottenham are set to have to deal without the likes of Harry Kane, Harry Winks and Erik Lamela this evening, while Heung Min-Son is suspended.
