Paul Merson says Everton away is a must win for Tottenham.

Paul Merson answers questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

Paul Merson has told SkySports he predicts Everton and Tottenham will play out a 1-1 draw this weekend.

That was the scoreline when the two sides met at Goodison Park last season, with Ross Barkley and Erik Lamela the goalscorers.

Neither player will be involved this weekend due to injuries.

Merson believes this game is a must win for Tottenham or they could be left with a mountain to climb to get back into the title race.

Spurs have four points at present while league leaders Manchester United have amassed nine.

The pundit added that Everton have a point to prove and that is why he believes Tottenham will fail to win.

He said: “This is a big game for both sides. If Everton get beat at home to Spurs you’ll get the voices saying: “They’ve spent all this money but are still a million miles away.” S

“Spurs have also started poorly and really need to win otherwise they could be chasing even at the early stage.

“This is a hard game for both teams and one they won’t want to lose. It’s a game both teams will be scared to lose so I’m going for a draw.”

Both Spurs and Everton won their opening matches of the season but have each failed to win since.

Wayne Rooney is available to start for the Toffees after a controversial week off the field, while Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is looking for his first Premier League goal of the campaign.

He netted twice for England against Malta and will hope this will kickstart his barren club campaign so far.
