Tottenham Hotspur will face Manchester City in the Premier League today.

Paul Merson has suggested in The Daily Star that Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino should include Christian Eriksen in the starting lineup against Manchester City this weekend.

Tottenham will take on City away from home at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Former Arsenal star Merson believes that Denmark international attacking midfielder Eriksen should start for Spurs against the defending Premier League champions.

The 27-year-old did not start against Aston Villa last weekend, but the former Ajax star came on as a substitute and changed the game.

Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “Christian Eriksen has to start against Manchester City or Tottenham could be in trouble.”

The former Arsenal star added: “You can’t give him time or he will hurt you. I’d like to think he’s the first name on the teamsheet now.

“He’s got to be, whatever his contract situation is. Whether he signs a new deal or not, he’s got to play. Otherwise Spurs are just biting their nose off to spite their face.”

Starting against Manchester City

Eriksen is one of the best and most creative players in Europe, and it did come as a surprise last weekend when Spurs manager Pochettino did not include the Dane in his starting lineup.

To win against City this evening, Tottenham need their best available players, and Eriksen has to start against Pep Guardiola’s side, as he has the quality and vision to unlock the home team’s defence.
