It has been a slow start to life at Arsenal for Fabio Vieira.
The Gunners shelled out around £34 million to sign the former Porto maestro during the summer transfer window.
It was quite a surprise signing by Arsenal given the lack of speculation surrounding a move in the days leading up to the deal being officially completed.
He made his full debut under Mikel Arteta on Thursday in a 2-1 victory at Zurich in the Europa League.
Vieira began the 2022-23 campaign with an injury that he’s been slowly but surely recovering from.
At Manchester United last week he made his Premeir League debut, with Arsenal losing 3-1 at Old Trafford.
However, Paul Merson has seen enough to know that he’s an ‘exciting player’.
He told Sportskeeda when previewing the postponed clash with Everton: “Fabio Vieira came on against Manchester United and made a good impact, but Arsenal need to bounce back after their first defeat of the season last weekend. Vieira looks like an exciting player, but I just hope they play their best team and don’t look to experiment for the sake of it.”
He is indeed an exciting player and really, the situation at Arsenal is ever so exciting full stop.
Arteta’s side won five of their first six Premier League outings and that was without a fully-fit Vieira.
It’s easy to forget that Arsenal won five league games on the spin without one of their biggest signings of the summer transfer window and that’s another reason for optimism.
In short, the North Londoners have a lot of improvement to come yet and given that they’re already top of the Premier League, who knows where they can finish this season.
