Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports Premier League (1:31pm, August 27, 2022) that Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United should make a move for Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin in the summer transfer window.
The former Arsenal star believes that Manchester United should try for Newcastle star Saint-Maximin instead of signing Ajax winger Antony.
The Guardian have reported that the Red Devils have had a bid of £76.3 million for the 22-year-old Brazil International winger turned down by his club Ajax.
Interestingly, Saint-Maximin has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.
Earlier this week, French news outlet MediaFoot claimed that Manchester United are interested in Saint-Maximin and could make a bid before the summer transfer window closes next week.
Merson said about Saint-Maximin on Sky Sports Premier League (1:31pm, August 27, 2022): “If I was Man United, I would take Saint-Maximin over Antony every day of the week, every day of the week.”
The Sky Sports pundit added: “Newcastle fans won’t want me to say, and I am sure Newcastle won’t sell him now given the money they have got, it makes me laugh how people are looking at Antony and not Saint-Maximin. I don’t get it. I don’t get it.”

Newcastle are a big and established club in the Premier League, and now that they have wealthy owners in PIF, they are surely not going to sell any of their best players.
The 25-year-old is an important player in manager Eddie Howe’s side and is hugely popular among the St. James’ Park faithful.
Saint-Maximin has scored 11 goals and created 23 big chances in 89 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
