Paul Merson has urged Liverpool to start Harvey Elliott against West Ham United on Saturday evening, as he told Sportskeeda.

The Sky Sports pundit added that Liverpool ‘don’t need’ to play three defensive-minded players against the Hammers.

Champions League-chasing West Ham travel to Anfield on the back of some indifferent form in the Premier League, including getting knocked out of the FA Cup in midweek.

Meanwhile, those on Merseyside are riding a wave after winning the League Cup and progressing through to the FA Cup themselves.

Nonetheless, Merson explained why the Reds should start 18-year-old Elliott against West Ham, who will be hoping for his fourth league start of the camapign.

“Liverpool have a lot of options in midfield,” said Merson. “But against West Ham, I’d pick Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Harvey Elliott.

“The 18-year-old is a bright young player and can pick a pass, I really like what I’ve seen from him so far.

“You don’t need three defensive-minded players, so I’d pick Elliott to play alongside the two experienced campaigners.”

David Moyes has never won at Anfield during his career and it’s a record he will want to quickly change.

The Irons may have done the business over Liverpool during the reverse fixture at the London Stadium, but this is a team that is now in full steam.

With the quality of attackers Klopp can pick from, you just can’t see them not scoring a few, nevermind just getting not the scoresheet with one goal.

Liverpool have Mo Salah, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane topping the goalscoring charts.

Whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Andy Robertson are topping the assets charts, which is just remarkable.
