Paul Merson has called on Jurgen Klopp to unleash Diogo Jota up front for Liverpool instead of Darwin Nunez.

The Reds were scheduled to face Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend but the upcoming round of Premier League fixtures might be postponed following the Queen’s death on Thursday.

When the visit of Wolves does happen though, Merson has suggested that Klopp axe Nunez from the starting XI in favour of the Portugal international, who is yet to start a game this season due to injury.

The former Arsenal midfielder told Sportskeeda: “As for Liverpool’s front three, with all of them fit, I think Diogo Jota should start up front at the moment with Salah and Luis Diaz either side of him.”

Is Liverpool v Wolves postponed?

At the moment it is looking doubtful that Saturday’s clash at Anfield will go ahead as scheduled.

According to a tweet from journalist Martin Ziegler this morning, all Premier League fixtures will definitely be postponed.

Zielger of The Times tweeted:

With the World Cup happening in November, the domestic schedule was already relatively congested, something that the Liverpool manager has spoken out about on multiple occasions.

So it remains to be seen when in fact the Reds’ visit of Bruno Lage’s outfit will come about.

Liverpool would’ve gone into tomorrow’s clash on the back of a 4-1 drubbing by Napoli in their Champions League opener in midweek.

Klopp’s side have just won only two of their seven games across all competitions this season – including a 98th-minute winner at home to Newcastle – and they’re just not at the races.

So Merson is probably right in arguing that Jota coming into the first XI wouldn’t be such a bad thing.
