Everton drew 2-2 at home to Watford on Monday night.

Paul Merson answers questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

Pundit Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that he isn’t sure Everton are improving right now after a 2-2 draw with Watford on Monday night.

After Richarlison has put Everton in front, the Toffees conceded twice in quick succession in the second half before Lucas Digne curled home a stunning free kick in injury time to save a point.

It’s now just two points from the last three games for Everton, after a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United and a 1-0 defeat away at rivals Liverpool.

The consensus is that Everton are taking steps in the right direction under Marco Silva, aided by a superb summer transfer window from Marcel Brands.

The likes of Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes, Richarlison and Digne have all thrived since being snapped up by Brands, adding real top six quality to this Everton side.

With Manchester United struggling, Everton may have aspirations of a top six finish, but patchy performances mean it’s still just a pipedream right now rather than a major target.

Everton take on Premier League champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this weekend in a tough game, and pundit Paul Merson has offered his take on Everton.

Merson has suggested that he isn’t sure Everton have improved at all just yet, believing that they’re still the ‘same old Everton’ as they can’t be trusted to win games they’re expected to win.

“A lot of people are saying Everton have improved, but I’m not sure,” said Merson. “The first half against Liverpool they did look a different team, yes, and they were unlucky not to be ahead. Then they play Newcastle and Watford at home and fail to win either. That’s the same old Everton we know. When they’re expected to win, I’m not sure about them,” he added.
