The Hammers signed ten players in the summer transfer window.
Paul Merson has told Sky Sports he has been left unconvinced by West Ham United’s business in the transfer window.
The Hammers were busy this summer, bringing in no fewer than ten players to the club.
Their biggest was signing Andre Ayew, who joined in a £20 million move from Swansea City, while the likes of Jonathan Calleri, Simone Zaza and Gokhan Tore have all arrived on loan.
There was also four free transfers, the most notable of whom is former Real Madrid star Alvaro Arbeloa.
It is fair to say that Slaven Bilic has improved his options drastically across the park, but Merson says he is less than impressed.
“I’m unconvinced by West Ham this window. I expected a very different list of signings to the ones they made,” he told Sky Sports.
“Simone Zaza could be decent, but he completes a mixed bag of transfers. A lot hinges on Ayew getting back on form when fit and Zaza firing from the off.”
In truth, the best piece of business that West Ham have done this summer is keeping hold of Dimitri Payet.
The French star was the key man for their side last season and his sublime summer at Euro 2016 certainly had the big sides interested in his services.
Losing him would have been a major blow to their hopes of another strong season and keeping him may prove to be better than the signings they have actually made.
