Pundit Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur face problems keeping their players happy amid revelations about Daniel Levy’s earnings.

Spurs picked up another superb result on Sunday afternoon, beating Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge to assert their position as London’s top club right now, with a top four place on the horizon once again.

Tottenham have now gone 13 Premier League games without defeat, and have lost just one league game since the end of November, with Mauricio Pochettino continuing to build an exciting Spurs side.

However, the challenge will be for Spurs to keep this crop of players together, with the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane all wanted elsewhere, whilst Toby Alderweireld could leave this summer over a contract disagreement.

Spurs operate on a much smaller budget than rivals such as Manchester City and Manchester United, but fans have been left stunned by The Times’ claims that chairman Daniel Levy earns around £6million a year.

That equates to £115,000-a-week for Levy, ahead of top earner Harry Kane at £100,000, with Spurs unwilling to break their pay structure for a number of players, yet Levy is seemingly exempt from that policy.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs players are disgruntled, but pundit Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that he thinks Tottenham’s squad could fall apart over Levy’s earnings, as the players won’t be happy at all, predicting major unrest at Spurs unless they pay their players accordingly.

“Daniel Levy calls people in and tells them ‘we’ve got to stay to a structure, we can’t pay you what other teams are paying’, but he’s on more – they won’t have that,” said Merson. “You need to watch this at Tottenham, because I can see this all falling apart. For how good they’ve been and how good they are, they need to start sorting out these players, because these are top players and they should be getting top money like other players are getting at other clubs. For me, this will cause unrest – no doubt about that,” he added.
