Both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are enduring very difficult times as their hopes of finishing in the Champions League places at the end of the season is under threat.

Paul Merson has claimed that both Arsenal and Tottenham would want Brendan Rodgers to be their manager as he lauded him as ‘one of the best’.

The Sky Sports pundit claimed that he would pay ‘£40 million’ for the high-flying Leicester City manager to trade his position at the King Power Stadium for the one at the Emirates Stadium.

Both Arsenal and Spurs have endured difficult starts to the season, with their managers and players coming under serious fire during this problematic campaign for them.

Speaking to The Debate on Sky Sports Football (11/11/19 at 10:40 pm), Merson waxed-lyrical about Rodgers, as he thinks the North London duo would want him as their manager.

“I think he’s one of the best in the business,” Merson told The Debate. “If I was Arsenal, I would have been ringing Leicester up and saying, ‘how much do you want?’. If you’re going to pay £72 million for a winger [Pepe] that hasn’t played in the Premier League and has played in the French league, I would pay £40 million for him tomorrow morning.”

“I would say Arsenal [would be a good fit for Rodgers]. Arsenal or Tottenham. I wouldn’t get rid of Pochettino, don’t get me wrong, I think he’s different class.

“I think them two teams will be looking at him. For me, if you’re going to bring Brendan Rodgers in and what he’s done with the teams he has been at like Swansea, Celtic, Liverpool and now Leicester, you give him a six-year plan and let him do what he wants to do. He improves players.”

Between Unai Emery and Mauricio Pochettino, it could be argued that the former is more under pressure to lose his job.

Pochettino has transformed Tottenham completely since his arrival, but they have hit a brick wall this term, which fans will be hoping will be solved by activity during the transfer window.

As for Emery, he is in his second season in charge and it doesn’t seem to be that he is in control of what is happening at the club, as a lot of fans are calling for his head.
