Paul Merson said on Sky Sports Premier League (2:23pm, February 1, 2021) that he is surprised that Calum Chambers did not leave Arsenal in the January transfer window.
The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, said that he was surprised that Fulham did not make a move for the defender.
The 26-year-old, who can operate as a right-back and as a centre-back, spent the 2018-19 season on loan at the Cottagers.
During his loan spell at Fulham, the England international made 29 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League, scoring two goals in the process, according to WhoScored.
Merson said about Chambers on Sky Sports Premier League (2:23pm, February 1, 2021): “Chambers, I thought Fulham might come back in for him, he didn’t let Fulham down last season. I thought he might be another body for them.”

Arsenal stay
Chambers joined Arsenal from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee of £16 million – as reported by BBC Sport – and when Arsene Wenger was in charge of the North London club.
The England international has had injury problems, and there is also a strong competition for places in defence.
According to WhoScored, the former Southampton star has made one start and one substitute appearance in the Europa League for the Gunners so far this season.
It is going to be hard for Chambers to play regularly for Arsenal in the coming weeks and months.
