Everton have recorded four points from their opening two Premier League games.
Paul Merson has claimed that Everton supporters will not be leaving Goodison Park thinking they will break into the top-six after they beat Watford 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Marco Silva’s side, who have started the season with back-to-back clean sheets, picked up their first three points of the season, with Bernard scoring the only goal of the game.
Despite the narrow scoreline, it was a pretty comfortable win for Everton, who have picked up four points from their opening two Premier League matches.
Speaking to Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports News (17/08/2019 at 5:40 pm), Merson made it clear that Everton’s win against Watford was just ‘efficient’.
“If you were an Everton fan, you wouldn’t come away from there and think ‘Oh, we could break into the top-six here’,” Merson told Soccer Saturday. “You wouldn’t think that – it was just an efficient win.”
Last season, the Toffees finished eighth in the Premier League table, and with Silva now in his second season, the expectation levels will have gone up a notch.
European football is a real possibility for the Merseyside club, but if they are to break into the top-six then they must show more consistency from the previous campaign.
Everton’s new signings, especially the capture of Moise Kean, will boost their chances of producing the goods this term, as they will travel to the Midlands to take on Aston Villa next Friday.
