West Ham United will be preparing for a tricky trip to Chelsea on Monday night.
Paul Merson has controversially claimed that if West Ham ‘keep going the way they are going’ then manager Manuel Pellegrini will not be at the club for long.
The Hammers have slipped outside of the Premier League’s top 10 after losing two out of their last three matches, which included needing a goal in stoppage-time to beat the now-relegated Huddersfield.
On Monday night, they will make the short trip across London to take on Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as they will be looking to get back to winning ways.
Speaking to Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports News (06/04/2019 at 1:45 pm), Merson claimed that the West Ham players are already on the beach as he sent a warning about Pellegrini’s future.
“They look like they have got their flip flops on,” Merson told Soccer Saturday. “Let’s remember, not even two weeks ago, they were 3-1 down against Huddersfield. No disrespect to Huddersfield, they can’t score three goals in so many games let alone in 60 odd minutes.
“You worry for the manager here. I’d be surprised if they keep on going the way they are going, there would be a change there, there would be a change there and he’s done nothing wrong really.”
After last season’s troubles, there is no doubt that the East London outfit have shown improvement under their new Premier League winning manager who replaced David Moyes in the dugout in the summer.
Summer signings have proven their worth, Declan Rice has had a breakthrough campaign and the club’s home form has improved drastically.
If the supporters were critical then they may feel that their cup performances were very poor and they lacked some consistency during certain parts of the campaign.
