Paul Merson suggests Tottenham Hotspur should try for Real Madrid ace Isco.

Isco of Real Madrid looks on prior to the match between Kashima Antlers and Real Madrid on December 19, 2018 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Paul Merson suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News last Saturday afternoon (12:57pm, December 22, 2018) that Tottenham Hotspur should make a move for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco.

According to The Independent, Arsenal are interested in signing Isco from Spanish and European giants Madrid in the January transfer window.

It has been reported that the Gunners will investigate the possibility of a swap deal with Los Blancos involving attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil.

Merson believes that Tottenham should be looking at signing Isco in January.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas believes that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is preparing to lose manager Mauricio Pochettino.

According to The Guardian, Manchester United are interested in appointing Pochettino as their manager in the summer of 2019.

Paul Merson said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News last Saturday afternoon (12:57pm, December 22, 2018): “They talk about Isco leaving Real Madrid. I think he fits Tottenham.

“I think Tottenham should be a team going for him. A top quality player, top standard. They never go in for that kind of player.”

Nicholas said about Levy and Pochettino on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News last Saturday afternoon (12:54pm, December 22, 2018): “I think he is prepared for it because he is mentioned with some many different clubs.”

Blockbuster signing

Although Isco has lost his place in the Madrid starting lineup in recent weeks, there is no doubt that the Spain international would be a blockbuster signing for Tottenham in January.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has won the Champions League four times and La Liga once with Madrid, and is one of the most creative players in Europe.

However, Madrid will not sell Isco on the cheap, if indeed they sell him at least in January, and Spurs may not be able to afford his transfer fee or his wages.
