Outgoing Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could become the new Everton boss, suggests Paul Merson.

Arsene Wenger manager

Paul Merson has suggested in The Daily Star that outgoing Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could take charge of Everton this summer.

Wenger is leaving the Gunners this summer after 22 years at the North London outfit, and former Arsenal attacking midfielder Merson has stated that he would not be surprised if the Frenchman became the new Everton boss.

Merson wrote in The Daily Star about Wenger: “Everton? It wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up there because he will think: ‘I’ll show you, Arsenal’.

“It might appeal to him to take another Premier League job and stick it to his old club. If he went to Everton and things went well he could end up finishing above them!

“That would be a nice way of showing them they were wrong to push him out the door before he was ready.”

Good fit at Everton?

Sam Allardyce is in charge of Everton at the moment, but it remains to be seen if the former West Ham United and Newcastle United manager will remain at Goodison Park beyond the summer.

According to The Sun, the Toffees and Allardyce will part company in the coming days, and if that does happen, then one suspects that Everton fans will not be too displeased.

Wenger is one of the greatest managers in Premier League history, and the Frenchman would be great for Everton.

The football that Arsenal played over the years under Wenger was superb, and Everton fans will surely be open to the idea of the Frenchman replacing Allardyce at Goodison Park.
