Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Paul Merson suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News last Saturday afternoon (12:57pm, October 14, 2017) that Everton should make a move for Southampton forward Charlie Austin in the January transfer window.

Austin has been on the books of Southampton since January 2016 when he joined from Queens Park Rangers for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4 million.

The 28-year-old arrived at the Saints with a strong reputation, but the forward’s time at St. Mary’s Stadium so far has been affected by injuries.

The Englishman was able to make only 11 starts in the Premier League last season, scoring six goals and providing one assist in the process.

So far this campaign for Southampton, Austin has scored one goal in 69 minutes of Premier League football and is not guaranteed a place in the starting lineup.

Former Arsenal star Merson has suggested that Everton should make a move for Austin in the January transfer window.

Merson said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News last Saturday afternoon (12:57pm, October 14, 2017): “For me, he has got to play or he has got to leave in January. If he was fit, I would be looking at him if I was Everton.”
