Marko Arnautovic did not play for West Ham United against Bournemouth at the weekend.
Merson believes that Arnautovic, who can operate as a forward or as a winger, does not deserve his wages for missing the Premier League game against Bournemouth at the weekend.
Ahead of the game, West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini told BBC Sport that the Austria international was left out of the squad as his head is on another issue.
According to BBC Sport, Arnautovic’s brother has said that the attacker wants to leave, and there has been interest in the former Stoke City star from China.
Merson said about Arnautovic on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News on Saturday afternoon (2:29pm, Saturday, January 19, 2019): “If he is not playing today and he is not mentally right, he shouldn’t be getting paid his wages this week. He shouldn’t because if you are not mentally right to play, you shouldn’t get your wages.”

Arnautovic is one of the best players at West Ham, and losing the former Stoke star in the middle of the season will be a massive blow for the Hammers.
It is hard to see the London club able to find a replacement for the Austrian this month.
