Paul Merson thinks Arsenal simply won’t give the thumbs up for Aaron Ramsdale to secure a transfer to Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea, nor would he go to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United or Liverpool.

Arsenal are in a spot of bother. They have two number one goalkeepers and there is now growing interest in Aaron Ramsdale.

Not only the interest, but the simple fact that he wants to be part of the England team that travels to Germany for Euro 2024 in the summer.

In all honesty, the 25-year-old won’t be doing that sat on Arsenal’s bench and the signs suggest that Mikel Arteta is going to continue with David Raya.

Paul Merson questioned which clubs Aaron Ramsdale could sign for during the January transfer window and he swiftly ruled out Chelsea, as he told Sky Sports News

Yes, the Blues have spent like crazy since the arrival of Todd Boehly as their new owner.

But with Robert Sanchez and Dorde Petrovic still trying to prove their worth in between the sticks, it has cast doubt about whether Mauricio Pochettino’s side will go again for a goalkeeper.

And even if they do, Paul Merson simply can’t see Aaron Ramsdale signing for them.

Aaron Ramsdale to Chelsea

“The name of the game, if you can get two top draw goalkeepers, which is very, very unusual, and Arsenal have got it, where are you going to go?” asked Merson.

“You aren’t going to Liverpool. You aren’t going to Manchester United. The only one I can see is Chelsea and I don’t see Arsenal selling to Chelsea.”

Aaron Ramsdale has a big call to make

This is where Ramsdale needs to be selfish and think about his own career, even if it means making a very individualistic call.

There’s no doubt that the £30 million signing would want to battle Raya for Arsenal’s number one jersey.

But if it ends up harming his chances of going to Euro 2024, then he has a big call to make this month.

If he can get guarantees from Gareth Southgate that he will still be selected, then strap in and continue to try and earn minutes for Arsenal.

But it seems highly unlikely that will happen!
