West Ham United have been remarkably inconsistent this season.

Paul Merson answers questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

Paul Merson suggested that West Ham can embarrass you when predicting their results, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports.

The Hammers have endured a difficult campaign this season, and they currently sit in 11th spot in the Premier League table, four points adrift of 10th placed Watford.

Manuel Pellegrini has had to deal with a multitude of injuries to some of his key players, however, and perhaps next season will be a fair time to judge the Chilean.

West Ham have earned some really impressive wins this season over the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham, whilst they have also drawn games against Liverpool and Chelsea.

They have struggled against mid-table teams, however, and Merson highlighted just how difficult their results are to predict, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports:

“They can embarrass you, West Ham. Look at them and think yep, they’ll beat Huddersfield easily but it takes a last-minute goal to score their fourth. They should have won against Manchester United, I gave them no chance at Tottenham and they won.”

West Ham need to win their last two games, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of finishing inside the top half this season, and if they play anywhere near their potential, they are more than capable of doing just that.
