Liverpool were lucky to beat Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Paul Merson suggested that he was screaming at the TV for Liverpool not to lose against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, when writing his column for Sky Sports.
The Reds eventually beat Spurs 2-1 and they now sit one point adrift of league leaders Manchester City in the Premier League table, with just six games remaining this season.
Liverpool have been excellent to watch this term, and they will probably never have a better chance to win the league title than they do this year.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are locked in a battle for the top four, and they hold a one point lead over fourth placed Arsenal and fifth placed Chelsea, although they have played a game more than the Gunners.
And Merson highlighted how important it was for Liverpool not to lose to Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, when writing his column for Sky Sports:
“I watched Liverpool last week against Tottenham and was screaming at the TV because you were thinking ‘don’t lose, if you lose that’s it’. I was in the position many years ago with Arsenal when we played Wimbledon in our last home game and we drew 2-2. In the end it meant we had to go to Liverpool and win by two clear goals. I was watching Liverpool and thinking ‘just take the point, you haven’t been good today and there’s a long way to go in the title race’.”
Liverpool travel to Southampton in the Premier League tonight whilst Tottenham are next in action in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
