It is hard to criticise Tottenham Hotspur for anything that they have done over the past few years.
Paul Merson highlighted one major problem for Tottenham this season, when speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, suggesting that they are one or two injuries away from everything collapsing.
Spurs have been in wonderful form of late, winning seven of their last eight Premier League games, and they currently sit in second spot in the Premier League, just six points adrift of league leaders Liverpool.
Tottenham have been excellent to watch, and the job that Mauricio Pochettino deserves great credit for the job that he has done at the club, since taking over in May 2014.
Many are now tipping Spurs to make a sustained push for the Premier League title this season, but Merson urged caution, drawing attention to their lack of strength in depth, when speaking exclusively to the Daily Star:
“The problem with them is that they are only two or three injuries away from it all collapsing. They haven’t got the biggest squad in the world. If you take one or two key players out of that team they are in trouble.”
It could be argued that Tottenham do actually have a really strong squad, however.
The Lilywhites have a plethora of players currently out injured, including Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Jan Vertonghen, but Pochettino has brought in the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Davinson Sanchez.
With 19 games to go this season, Tottenham and Pochettino have a great chance to prove all of their doubters wrong, and wins against Wolves and Cardiff City over the next few days would put them in a wonderful position heading into the new year.
