Former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes Hull City could regret being unable to close a deal for Aaron Lennon.
He told SkySports television’s live transfer deadline day coverage that Everton had a stroke of fortune in being able to sign the winger.
Lennon’s departure from Spurs was rarely in doubt on deadline day, but his destination was, with Everton beating competition from Hull City and Stoke City for his signature.
Merson said he was a big fan of the former England international, and that Steve Bruce’s Hull side missed out on a useful player.
He said: “I think he’s a very good player who out the Spurs team. I like him, he is a big loss for Hull. Everton had a right touch in my opinion.”

Over the past four seasons, Lennon has created 150 goalscoring chances in the Premier League, which sits him in the top 25 in the division over that period, notable considering he has barely played this season.
He is also above some stellar names in terms of his key passes, including Arsenal rival Theo Walcott.
While the Gunners star is far more prolific in terms of his goalscoring, Lennon’s passing shows what he can do for his new side, and what he could have brought to both Hull and Stoke.
