Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has said that he feels for Arsenal player Kai Havertz.

The former Arsenal star has said that Kai Havertz has not played well for the Gunners so far this season.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that the 24-year-old has the look of Mesut Ozil about him.

Merson has said that people who think that Havertz does not care when things are not going well are wrong.

It just looks that way, like it did with Mesut Ozil when he was at Arsenal, according to Merson.

Arsenal signed Havertz from London and Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a forward, has started all four of Arsenal’s Premier League matches so far this season.

The Germany international has failed to make a positive impression in those games.

Paul Merson verdict on Arsenal player Kai Havertz

Merson told Sky Sports: “I feel for Kai Havertz. He’s playing in a position where it’s not easy. He hasn’t played very well.

“Mikel Arteta will stick with him. He’s low on confidence but Arsenal have won three and drawn one.

“You’ve paid that money and put yourself out there to go and get him.

“The cream rises to the top.

“I’m a big fan but I did say when he got signed, he has got that look of Mesut Ozil about him.

“That’s the problem. If it isn’t going well, he doesn’t look too interested. That’s not the case – it just comes across like that.”

Staying positive about Kai Havertz

We believe that Arsenal fans should stay positive about Kai Havertz.

Yes, things are not working for the forward at the moment, but it is still early days.

In our view, the Germany international will eventually come good.

We have seen Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta improve and develop the likes of Martin Odegaard and William Saliba.

Odegaard could not make an impact at Real Madrid, but the Norway international is now one of the best playmakers in the Premier League.

Arteta could make a similar impact on Havertz.

Havertz has made 95 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The German has scored 19 goals and given seven assists in those matches.
