Pundit says West Ham must get rid.

Paul Merson has told SkySports that West Ham should sell Dimitri Payet and has accused him of ‘using’ the club.

Payet has gone on strike in an attempt to force a move away from the club, with manager Slaven Bilic admitting to being ‘angry’ at the situation, The BBC reported.

The Frenchman was outstanding last season and followed this up with terrific performances at Euro 2016, but is now looking for a fresh challenge.

Merson has hit out at Payet, and believes West Ham will be just fine without him.

He said: “Let’s be honest, if it wasn’t for West Ham then we probably wouldn’t even know who Payet is – they put him on the map and then he treats them like this.

“I’d say get rid of him, get £30m and drop him off. You don’t want people like that around who just use the club.”

Merson is also backing West Ham to win against Crystal Palace this weekend 2-0, despite the fact Payet will not be in action.

Merson’s comments about Payet perhaps highlight his own lack of knowledge of French football, but he has a point that West Ham paid out a big figure to sign him, and then even increased his wages just six months into the contract he signed.
