The Brazilian has been in fine form for Liverpool at the beginning of this season.
Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that he thinks Liverpool unearthed a gem in forward Roberto Firmino.
The Brazilian initially joined the Reds in a big money move from Hoffenheim last summer under former manager Brendan Rodgers.
He failed to shine early on in that campaign as he struggled to adapt to the rigours of Premier League football.
Things gradually improved under Jurgen Klopp, though, and he has since established himself as not only a first-team regular but a key component in the German’s system.
He has shone at the beginning of this season and Merson has been impressed by what he has seen.
He told Sky Sports: “Everything about him is top draw, for me, they found a gem.”
“After he come it took him a while but that’s because of how hard this league is. He’s got used to that now and he’s what you’d call a good footballer.”
Firmino has certainly been impressive so far for the Reds and is now fully justifying the price they originally paid for him.
So far this season he has three goals to his name, making him the club’s second-highest scorer alongside Philippe Coutinho.
He has also registered the second most shots on target per game (1.1) and is top when it comes to key passes per game (3.3).
The most telling factor, though, is the fact he is keeping Daniel Sturridge out of the Liverpool team and he will be hoping he can keep doing it for the rest of the season.
