Paul Merson suggests that Tottenham Hotspur should make a move for West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino in the January transfer window.

Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, January 14, 2017) that Tottenham Hotspur should make a move for Saido Berahino in the January transfer window.

Berahino is on the books of West Bromwich Albion at the moment, but his current contract with Premier League outfit runs out at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old striker is struggling for playing time at the moment and has been able to play only four times in the league for the Baggies so far this campaign.

Former Arsenal attacker Merson has suggested that Spurs should move for the striker in the January transfer window.

“I am surprised Tottenham haven’t gone again,” said Merson on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, January 14, 2017).

“Who have they got? They have got Harry Kane upfront. If he gets injured, can Janssen win them the Premier League? Son, can they win you the Premier League over the next 10 or 12 games?”

West Brom's Saido Berahino

Kane is Tottenham’s best striker and is scoring goals for fun at the moment. The England international netted a hat-trick against West Brom at White Hart Lane in the Premier League at the weekend.

Spurs do need a back-up to the 23-year-old, but would Berahino be a good signing in the January transfer window?

True, the striker has Premier League experience, but he has not played too many matches this season. Would Berahino be able to come in and make an instant impact?
