Liverpool are top of the league with 11 wins from 12 games.

Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool looks on with ta smile ahead of the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and Manchester City at Anfield on November 10, 2019 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Liverpool are enjoying a terrific start to the season after winning 11 of their first 12 Premier League matches.

Just one draw prevents them from having a perfect record, and they sit eight points clear at the top of the league.

Only one team has gone unbeaten in the top flight over the past 100 years and that was Arsenal in 2003/04.

Former Gunners star Paul Merson was asked whether Liverpool can do the same, and he does not believe they can.

Merson told Sky Sports The Debate (11/11 10pm): “Its just so hard. They’ve still got to go to City. They’ve got to be so lucky.

“They have got to be lucky for another 26 games, not four or five. Plus they’ve got Champions League, they are the holders of that, they are not going to give that up lightly.”

Liverpool did lose one game in the Champions League earlier in the season, a surprise loss at Napoli.

They have since bounced back to win three straight and qualification to the knockout stages is now a formality.

The big distraction for Liverpool is the Club World Cup, taking place in Qatar next month.

The Reds’ next games in the league are away to Crystal Palace, at home to Brighton, and then at home to rivals Everton.
