Harry Kane missed out on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane scored his 18th Champions League goal of his career last night in just 22 games.
Its a stunning record, but Kane still has some work to do to gain the recognition his performances deserve.
Paul Merson told Sky Sports’ The Debate (23/10 10pm) that he believes Kane was wrongly left off the 30 man Ballon d’Or shortlist.
As many as seven Liverpool players made the list after they won the Champions League.
Just two Spurs players, Hugo Lloris and Heung Min Son were included.
Merson said: “You’ve got to look at what players doing for their countries.
“He’s carried England. I’d definitely have him in there.”
Kane may well have made the shortlist had he not missed the Champions League semi-finals and quarter final second leg through injury.
His performance in the Champions League final will not have helped his cause either.
If anything, the snub can be good for Spurs. It keeps Kane motivated, knowing he has to keep scoring and improving to see if he can make his way onto the shortlist next season.
