Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen did not have a great first half of the season, but in recent weeks and months he has been superb.

The 25-year-old is the architect-in-chief for Tottenham and is playing a key role in the North London club’s quest for the Premier League title this season.

The Denmark international has scored six goals and created 79 chances in 27 Premier League appearances for Spurs so far this campaign.

During the 2015-16 season, Eriksen scored six goals and created 114 chances in 35 league matches for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has been impressed with the performances of Eriksen and seems to rate him highly.

“I am a big fan of this lad,” said Merson about Eriksen on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ last Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, April 1, 2017). “I think he is an outstanding footballer.”

“I think he is different class,” added Merson. “I think of all the players you mentioned then, he is the one who knits it together, he is the one with that bit of guile.”

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 62 points from 29 matches, seven points behind leaders and London rivals Chelsea.

Pochettino’s side will return to action on Wednesday evening when they take on relegation candidates Swansea City away from home at the Liberty Stadium in the league.
