John Terry left Aston Villa at the end of last season.

Paul Merson has written in The Daily Star that Aston Villa are missing John Terry.

Terry spent the 2017-18 campaign at Villa after joining the Villans in the summer of 2017.

The former England international defender moved Villa on a free transfer after leaving Premier League giants Chelsea.

Former Villa attacking midfielder Merson believes that the Championship club should have kept hold of Terry, who is without a club at the moment after leaving the Villans at the end of last season.

Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “I think they miss John Terry. They don’t have many leaders and they should have given him whatever he wanted to stay.

“I was surprised they didn’t to be honest because he was really important last season and they miss his voice.”

Aston Villa struggles

Villa are struggling for positive results at the moment and are also without a permanent manager.

Steve Bruce was dismissed by the Villans earlier this week, and the Championship club are now looking for a successor.

The Villans suffered a 2-1 defeat to Millwall away from home at The Den in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The loss means that Villa are now 15th in the Championship table with 15 points from 12 matches, three points behind sixth-placed Brentford.
