Should Arsenal have made a move for Danny Drinkwater before he left Leicester City for Chelsea on transfer deadline day?

Chelsea signed Drinkwater from Premier League rivals Leicester on transfer deadline day.
According to BBC Sport, the defending Premier League champions had to pay the Foxes a transfer fee of £35 million in order to secure the services of the 27-year-old midfielder.

Former Arsenal star Merson has suggested that the Gunners should have put in a bid for the England international.
“Arsenal should have bid for Danny Drinkwater rather than let him go to Chelsea,” Merson wrote in The Daily Star. “At least he will fight for you.”

Drinkwater is a good midfielder and has progressed well since his departure from Manchester United in 2012.
The 27-year-old was a key player in Leicester winning the Premier League title during the 2015-16 campaign.
The Englishman is a good signing for Chelsea and will enhance the depth of Antonio Conte’s midfield.
Chelsea have picked up six points from three games in the Premier League so far this season and are one of the favourites to win the league title.
