Paul Merson thinks Brendan Rodgers has done a ‘far better job’ in the Premier League than what Mauricio Pochettino did at Tottenham, as he told Sky Sports.
The outspoken Sky pundit is baffled as to why Manchester United want to seemingly employ the ex-Spurs boss because he thinks Leicester City’s Rodgers would be a better fit.
Currently at Paris Saint-Germain, Pochettino is reportedly a summer target for Manchester United, who currently have Ralf Rangnick in interim charge, as reported by Sky Sports.
Ever since leaving north London, Pochettino has taken the pressure hot seat of PSG, who failed to win the Ligue 1 title last season, but they have a 13-point gap at the top this season.
Either way, Merson doesn’t rate what Pochettino has done since being sacked by Daniel Levy, as he sent this blunt message involving Rodgers.
“I don’t understand why Manchester United would be waiting for Mauricio Pochettino,” questioned a puzzled Merson. “I don’t get it. If Pochettino doesn’t win the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain, why would they be going in for him?
“He got Tottenham to the final of the Champions League and his side finished third one year in the Premier League.
“Football is all about timing. If Leicester were second in the Premier League right now and still in the cups, Brendan Rodgers would be the bookmakers’ favourite to be the next manager of Man Utd.
“He took Tottenham as far as he could, and then you’ve got someone like Rodgers who has done a far better job than what Pochettino did – He only lost the league at Liverpool because of a slip. Now, he doesn’t even get a mention.”

Rodgers is going through a tough time at the King Power Stadium and has recently been batting away questions about his future.
So, whilst Pochettino is being questioned about how well he is doing in France’s capital, it’s not exactly rosy in the garden for Rodgers.
Plus, it would be interesting to see the reaction from the Old Trafford faithful if it was Rodgers appointed full-time, especially given that the 49-year-old has past connections with Liverpool.
Unlike a certain Rafa Benitez, who was recently sacked by Everton, he’s not seen as a legend, but he still managed and was sacked by them, before they went on to achieve their best period in decades under Jurgen Klopp.
