Paul Merson rips into Everton treatment of Sam Allardyce

Pundit defends Everton boss.

Paul Merson has told Sky Sports he feels manager Sam Allardyce is being poorly treated by Everton.

Allardyce’s future at the club is unclear with new managers being linked to the club by the media.

Yet it was the survey sent out by Everton themselves which irked Allardyce, with supporters urged to rate the manager’s performance out of 10.

Allardyce told SkySports yesterday he had received an apology from the club, citing a misunderstanding fro the marketing department.

Pundit Paul Merson was not so generous, and has heavily criticised the Toffees for disrespecting Allardyce.

He said: “It’s embarrassing. He’s a former England manager. If he didn’t say what he said he’s still the manager of England, now they’re sending out surveys. I’d expect that when I was manager of Walsall, I wouldn’t expect Sam Allardyce to get that treatment.

“I think they did it last year, but that isn’t the point. They have an England manager, someone who’s been in the game a million years – it’s disrespectful.”

Merson added that he felt that while Allardyce was unhappy, he would not lose his rag and resign. Instead believing he will wait to be sacked if that’s what Everton want, and land a severance pay-off of millions.

Everton face Newcastle on Monday night with Allardyce hoping to keep the Toffees in the top 10.
