Arsenal play host to Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby on Sunday.

Paul Merson spoke exclusively to Sky Sports ahead of Sunday’s clash between Arsenal and Tottenham, and suggested that there has not been a power shift in north London.

Spurs currently sit in third spot in the Premier League table, three points clear of fifth placed Arsenal, and it seems as though Mauricio Pochettino’s side are more well equipped to challenge for the title than Unai Emery’s men.

Gunners fans will be desperate for their side to beat Tottenham on Sunday, and not just for bragging rights.

Arsenal will jump up above their bitter rivals in the table with all three points this weekend, and that really would make people stand up and take notice of Emery’s side.

Merson insisted that there has not been a power shift in north London, however, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports, suggesting that Spurs need to win something before they can be classed as a top side:

Paul Merson (l) and Phil Thompson answer questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

“No, and I say that because Tottenham have not won anything. At the moment, these two teams are playing who finishes above who. And until Tottenham start winning stuff, then there is no power shift. If Tottenham started winning stuff, then it is a major shift. Tottenham have the better players, but until they start winning things you cannot say there has been a shift.”

Tottenham last won the league title in 1961, and Arsenal have won the top flight crown six times since then, so Merson clearly has a point.

Spurs seem to be good enough to win major honours. The only problem is that Manchester City and Liverpool are on a different level this season.

Pochettino’s side maybe need to win a cup competition first, before they can go on and win the league, and the sooner they do that, the better for everyone involved with Tottenham.
