West Ham United are one of the very few teams who are going to be busy on transfer deadline day as they look to conclude some last-minute moves.
For the majority of the Premier League, in comparison to recent windows, this has been a pretty quiet January, with little spending and movement throughout.
But David Moyes could be about to part ways with two big earners within his West Ham United squad – Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals.
Sources have told HITC Football that the West Ham United duo are likely to depart the London Stadium on Thursday – Here are all the ins and outs of the January transfer window.
Paul Merson understood the possible exit of Said Benrahma, but expressed that he is a fan of Pablo Fornals and he is ‘surprised’ other teams haven’t come in for him amid a possible move to Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis, as he told The Transfer Show on Sky Sports (01/02/24 at 2:15 pm).
If these deals go through, then it will allow the Hammers to free up the wage bill and possibly add in another name.
Sources have told HITC Football that former Watford winger Ismaila Sarr could join before the deadline – Here is everything you need to know about when the winter transfer window will slam shut.
Nonetheless, these were Paul Merson’s thoughts on the potential departures of Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals.
West Ham United on transfer deadline day
“I like him,” said Merson about Fornals. “I think he is a good player.
“I think the Benrahma makes sense. Getting sent off against Bristol City. I don’t think the fans were happy with that at all. I sort of get that one.
“But Fornals, I like him. I think he is a good player. I am surprised that other teams haven’t been in, probably because he hasn’t been playing a lot. I think he is a special player.”

West Ham United’s January business
Whilst more names could arrive, the standout arrival has been England international, Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City.
With Moyes’ men still pushing in Europe and sitting sixth in the Premier League, then a huge second half of the campaign awaits.
Someone like Phillips, with his experience and never-stop engine, is going to prove to be a massive player in the middle of the park.
And If the Irons are to win yet another European trophy, then they need to use every inch of their squad.
